Inauguration for automated eight-floor parking facility ‘South Square’ at Sarojini Nagar

India inaugurated the 824 space, automated parking garage at Sarojini Nagar today. Developed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) under public-private partnership with real estate developers DLF Limited, they will offer free parking space to shoppers at Sarojini Nagar Market for the first 20 days, as part of a real-time trial of the fully automated system, it will start charging Rs 10 per hour thereafter. The national capital today got its first automated eight-floor parking facility ‘South Square’ at Sarojini Nagar.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath inaugurated the parking facility, said to be the largest in Asia. Ms Dikshit said the parking woes in New Delhi area will end by 2012 with commissioning of 1400 vehicle capacity Baba Kharag Singh Marg automated parking lot and the first under ground automated parking facility being constructed by the DMRC near Delhi High Court.
She requested the Union Minister to allot a plot for an automated parking facility at Khan Market. Mr Kamal Nath assured that his ministry will facilitate allotment of suitable plots for construction of parking lots in Delhi. Ms Dikshit described the new parking facility at Sarojini Nagar as safe, convenient and clean which will prove to be helpful to the visitors and traders of the famous and popular market in new and south Delhi.
She exhorted the MCD to expedite its multi-level automated parking lots in all critical markets. She also underlined the need of proper maintenance and upkeep of the new parking lot which will be commercially opened on December 1.
